Swords, horses and Kerowyn, a female warrior - as protag. What's not to like? But, oddly, I haven't really got into it and it's taking me ages to finish. 3/5
Wolf Hall
By Hilary Mantel (RIP)
Mantel's superlative historical-fiction retelling of the life of Thomas Cromwell, perhaps Henry VIII's most famous aide, part 1. Stunningly written. 5/5
The Wolf God (Gods of Bronze prequel novella)
By Dan Davis
Yay! A European Bronze Age setting! But sooo slow to gather pace. Enjoyably vivid action scenes later on, rather reminiscent of Robert E Howard. IMO: this self-published e-book could benefit from another edit. 2/5
The Many-Coloured Land / The Golden Torc
By Julian May
My nth re-read of parts 1 & 2 of Ms May's magnum opus: the Pliocene Saga of the Exiles. For me, it's a highly satisfying, near-flawless blend of sci-fi with fantasy. Some may find the language dated. 5/5
Mermaid
and Other Water Spirit Tales From Around the World
Ed. Heidi Anne Heiner
A treasury of water spirit folklore, tales and mythological fragments, Includes gems from many countries, and from the likes of Oscar Wilde, but some selections are a bit too repetitive. 3/5
